Camerata Musicale, Berlin. Trio Sonatas of the Late Baroque. Nonesuch, 1968(?). (on vinyl, from a thrift store)
A group consisting of flute, oboe, cello and harpsichord (with cello and harpsichord doubling the bass line) plays simple sonatas by Johann Joseph Fux (snicker), Telemann, Baldassare Galuppi, Johann Joachim Quantz and Sebastian Bodinus. No, I don’t know who half those composers are, either, but it doesn’t matter because they all sound pretty much the same. I mention the instrumentation because I kind of love it; it’s the perfect sound for this kind of music. Good performances, good music, a solid album all around, but nothing memorable. 7/10 (Good).
