Album: A Friend of a Friend

Dave Rawlings Machine. A Friend of a Friend. Acony ACNY-0908, 2009. (on CD)

If you don’t know, Dave Rawlings has always been half of the creative force behind Gillian Welch’s recordings. Why Welch got a solo album credit when Rawlings did half the singing, half the playing and half the writing I never knew, but now it would seem they’ve traded places. This isn’t exactly like a Gillian Welch album – it’s more up-beat, and there are a number of contributing musicians other than Welch and Rawlings – but it’s close enough to be mistaken for one.

9/10 (One of my favorites).
