Van Cliburn/Beethoven/Mozart. “Les Adieux” Sonata/Sonata in C, K. 330. RCA Victor LSC-2931, 1966. (on vinyl, from a thrift store)
I don’t have a strong reason to care about it. The Mozart sonata was recorded by Glenn Gould (twice, even), which as far as I’m concerned makes other recordings of it superfluous. And the Beethoven sonata is one of his late ones (aka ridiculously melodramatic), so I’m not crazy about that. On the plus side, it’s well-produced (something I’ve learned not to expect from RCA records from this period) and excellently played – good to know if I come across another Cliburn album.
