Blossom Dearie. Give Him the Ooh-La-La. Verve 314517067-2, 1998 (originally released 1957). (on CD)
Blossom Dearie’s second album. It gets a bit too theatrical at times (for instance, the title track is done as a comedy number), in the half-hearted sort of way that you might expect to get when a small voice accompanied only by a jazz rhythm section tries to be too theatrical. And what’s with not even wearing her signature glasses on the cover? But there are no cheesy back-up singers this time, and overall her voice is too great to pay much attention to minor faults.
9/10 (One of my favorites).
